Musical Director

Barb Mersinger

City Voices Chorus is proud to introduce our new director, Barb Mersinger. Barb is a charter member of City Voices since 2001 and has been a Sweet Adeline since 1995, when she joined Gateway Sounds Chorus. She is a lead singer and has been a lead section leader, assistant director and interim director in both Gateway Sounds and City Voices. Barb grew up in a musical family and has been singing and playing piano and organ all her life, in addition to raising a family and working in the Granite City, Illinois area. She sang in church and school choirs and has directed church choirs of all ages, including directing many children's musicals and adult cantatas for her church. She has also been church pianist, organist and soloist. After being introduced to Sweet Adelines, she fell in love with the beautiful harmonies in barbershop and the camaraderie of the Sweet Adeline sisterhood. She embraced the educational opportunities available in the organization, becoming the chorus’ internal vocal production coach. When the chorus has been between directors, Barb has stepped in as interim director “where others feared to tread,” and we are delighted to have her leading us officially, now, as our frontline director.
