Who are we?
City Voices is comprised of women from all walks of life and all ages, from teens to grandmothers. The common denominator is that we all love to sing!
We come from all over the St. Louis area, from Missouri and Illinois. Our musical backgrounds vary, ranging from members who don’t read music to some who teach music. And it’s not just about singing. City Voices’ members share ALL their talents, so if you are good with makeup, can write a script, sew, bake a mean cupcake, whistle – you’ll find an outlet in City Voices.
What’s a rehearsal like?
When you visit, you will be invited to join us on the risers to see how it feels to sing with us. We start with invigorating warm-ups led by one of our assistant directors. Our master director, Jerilee Inghram, leads us through our repertoire songs, teaching and refining our vocal skills. Sometimes there is a bit of choreography to keep us – and the music – energized!
You may choose to sit down and enjoy watching the chorus. We love to perform, so that works, too.
What brings us back?
Our chorus rejoices with every new recruit to barbershop singing, and our risers are liberally sprinkled with recent members. But it’s also true that City Voices has many singers who have been members of Sweet Adelines International for decades – hooked by this energizing and uplifting activity that benefits our physical and emotional well-being.
Our weekly time on the risers is a musical escape and positive experience to balance the commitments of our daily lives. Thursday night is a time to enjoy camaraderie and develop treasured friendships, all while sharing the common bond of music.
How to join?
After a few weeks, you can choose to audition for membership in City Voices Chorus. We will provide you with the tools, assistance, and support you need to succeed in the audition experience.
If you would like more information about visiting a rehearsal, contact: Sue (314)691-1065 or email the chorus at email@example.com.
