Imagine...

It’s Thursday. You hurry home from your daytime life, take care of evening chores and put on some comfortable clothes. Back in the car, you play a CD and sing along – warming up those vocal cords. You’re heading to the Church of the Good Shepherd in Town and Country. Inside the double door, you greet a collection of women – all ages, all types. To you, they seem like sisters. There are accountants, teachers, full-time homemakers, doctors, journalists, a funeral home director, students: interesting women who are interested in you.

You make your way to the risers. For the next few hours, you concentrate on producing exquisite four-part female harmony and releasing your inner performer.

Front and center is a master director with a dynamic personality, a degree in vocal pedagogy and 30 years of experience in the craft of barbershop singing. For Jerilee Inghram, you want to give your all, and then you’ll try to give a little more than that.

You’re at a rehearsal of the award-winning City Voices Chorus…and you’re loving it!

City Voices Chorus is made up of women of all ages and walks of life who agree the best way to spend Thursday nights is to raise voices in song, honing skills in the absorbing and rewarding art of barbershop-style a cappella singing.

Members need not be God’s gift to music. Average singing ability combined with a desire to learn and work hard will do just fine. Members range from trained music professionals to “shower”

singers who don’t read music. Current members of the chorus will attest that no matter what level of vocal skills they had upon joining – they have gotten better.

The 57 singers in City Voices Chorus are part of 27,000 others across the country and world who are members of Sweet Adelines International, an organization devoted to training women to excel in four-part a cappella singing. Beyond the fabulous musical training and experience, other rewards include friendships, fun and the chance to participate in an activity that will make you truly proud.

Come to a Thursday night rehearsal and see for yourself.

There’s a spot on City Voices’ risers with your name on it.
